The Halloween Happy Mail Challenge

How Our Crafty Friends’ Handmade Cards Got Featured on TV

What started as a fun idea turned into something truly special, and it all began with a question on TV: “Who actually sends Halloween cards?”

Last month, the ABC 12 Morning Show interviewed us to talk about Night Owl Craft Retreat, our new overnight crafting retreat in Burton, Michigan. Then, just a few weeks later, those same anchors sparked a lighthearted on-air discussion about Halloween cards and who still sends them.

That playful conversation gave us an idea.

Let’s Show Them How Many People Still Send Handmade Cards!

We decided to launch the Halloween Happy Mail Challenge and invited our community of crafty friends to send Halloween (or fall-themed) cards to the ABC 12 Morning Show team.

Our goal? To fill their mailbox with handmade happy mail and share a little joy, while reminding everyone just how meaningful a simple card can be.

We mailed the first batch from Night Owl Craft Retreat, then challenged others to join in by sending their own cards and posting photos on social media. The response was amazing! Card makers from all over Michigan, and even across the country, jumped in to share some of their Halloween creations with the Morning Show team.

ABC 12’s Surprise Follow-Up

A few days later, the anchors at ABC 12 shared a follow-up segment on air showing off a portion of all the incredible handmade cards that had arrived! One anchor’s desk was covered in beautiful handmade Halloween cards, and they thanked Night Owl Craft Retreat and our crafty friends for sending them all in.

It was the perfect example of what handmade cards are all about: connecting people, spreading kindness, and making others smile.

A Huge Thank You to Everyone Who Joined In

We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make the Halloween Happy Mail Challenge such a success! From our friends on social media to our email list, and to Michelle’s Owl Star Stampers team and friends, so many of you participated and we’re so thankful for each of you.

You reminded the world that handmade cards are still alive and well, and that a little creative joy can make a big difference.

Thank you for being part of this heartwarming moment and for helping us bring smiles, one card at a time.
