A Behind-the-Scenes Look at How Guest Feedback Helps Us Improve the Retreat
One of the things that matters most to us at Night Owl Craft Retreat is creating a space where guests feel comfortable, relaxed, and cared for. When we opened, we knew the retreat would continue to evolve — and that some of the best ideas would come directly from the people using the space.
Over the past several months, we’ve paid close attention to guest feedback, observations, and how groups naturally use the retreat. When suggestions make sense and align with the way the space is designed, we do our best to implement them so the experience continues to improve for everyone.
Below are some of the updates we’ve already made, along with a few things we’re planning next.
Thoughtful Updates Based on Guest Feedback
Craft Room Improvements
- Additional table added at the end of the main crafting tables — a skinny 5’ table that works well for snacks, a cutting station, or overflow space
- Chair mats added under rolling chairs — guests love the chairs, but the mats help prevent them from rolling away too easily on the floor
- Removable curtain purchased for the front door to give groups more privacy and comfort. It can be put up at night or anytime guests prefer, helping block outside visibility and keep the space warmer.
Bedroom Convenience
- A few luggage racks added to bedroom closets for easier suitcase and bag storage
- More hangers added to closets so guests have plenty of space to hang clothing
- Beds rearranged in the Pool Party Bedroom to create more open space and give guests more room to move comfortably
Bathroom Updates
- Additional rug near the shower, so there are now two rugs for added warmth and comfort
- Night lights in the bathrooms to make nighttime trips easier
- Stool in the bathroom for a convenient place to set clothes
- Hooks added near the shower to make towels easier to hang
- Color-coded towel system using small colored keychains on hooks, making it easier for guests to keep track of their towels
- Rolling toiletry cart added to the small bathroom — this gives guests a convenient place to set toiletries while using the sink. This solution works well in the small bathroom, while the larger bathroom remains barrier-free to maintain ADA accessibility.
Kitchenette & Food Setup Enhancements
- Toaster oven added to provide more food options
- Additional table space added for food and snacks — including a new table in the kitchenette and another just around the corner in what had previously been unused space
- Small garbage can added near the coffee maker for convenience
- Ice tray and scoop added to the freezer — this makes it easier for groups to manage ice, whether they bring bagged ice or use the ice trays provided
- Storage containers added to the kitchenette — a variety of container sizes are now available to make it easier to save leftovers in the fridge between meals and reduce food waste during the weekend
Balancing Great Ideas With What’s Possible
Our guests have shared many wonderful ideas, and if budget and logistics were unlimited, we would love to do them all. We appreciate every suggestion and take them seriously.
At the same time, we have to be thoughtful about:
- What will make the biggest impact for the most guests
- What fits within our current budget
- What can be done well and safely, rather than rushed
Our goal is to make meaningful, high-impact improvements over time, not quick changes that don’t truly enhance the experience. Some ideas may take longer to implement, and some may need to wait until the timing is right — but that doesn’t mean they aren’t valued.
Looking Ahead: What We’re Planning Next
We’re not done improving the space. A couple of updates we’re currently planning include:
- Adding hooks to the backs of all bedroom doors and the small bathroom door to provide even more places to hang towels or personal items
- Adding additional electrical outlets in select areas where it makes sense, based on how guests naturally use the space
A Note About Accessibility
We also want to be transparent about something important.
Night Owl Craft Retreat is designed to be ADA accessible and barrier-free, and that is something really important to us. While we truly appreciate every suggestion we receive, there are times when certain ideas can’t be implemented because they would interfere with accessibility or ease of movement within the space.
When we make updates, we always balance:
- Guest comfort and convenience
- Safety and usability
- Maintaining a clear, barrier-free layout
We believe accessibility benefits everyone, and it’s something we take seriously as the retreat continues to grow and improve.
